We know the essential literacy skills every young reader needs to develop, we know that we need to have explicit and systematic teaching of these skills, we know that we need to provide time for practice, and we know that we need to differentiate to move forward or enrich our students from where they are at. So how do we fit all that into our day. In working with teachers Kelly realized that there was a need for a guiding schedule for how to layout literacy throughout a school day or week. This session invites you to take a look at the layout of the Instructional Literacy Schedule and see how you can set up your day to include whole group instruction; previously taught skills practice; differentiated instruction within small groups; comprehension and vocabulary cross-curricular; and last but certainly not least the writing components of both transcription and composition.
